I took this photo on the road thinking "Oooo cool! Really tall crosses in a cemetery!" Later, when visiting a home in the mountains we were told that about 20 miles from where we were, there was a small town (more like village) where Christian teaching is illegal. The way that their city government is set up, it sounded as if the state/ country laws came in second to their own. We were then told that if we were to be ministering there, we could have been hanged, burned or both for our crimes against the community if they deemed it necessary. Coincidentally, one of our Spanish translator friends was looking at this photo (along with others I had taken) as the people in the house were telling this story and he said "Oh my goodness! This is where he is talking about!" Crazy!
- When I told extended family and friends I was going to Mexico, they all seemed to stiffen up and offer to pray for me and my safety. I was thankful for the prayer, no doubt, but I was much more concerned with the Spirit going before us to stir the hearts of those we would speak to. This was the only thing that even seemed dangerous to me on the trip. I knew we would not be sharing the gospel there... I never felt unsafe.
